Most of us thought acne was well behind us, the puberty years a distant memory, but with mandated mask-wearing out in public and most retail workers having to wear them while working, breakouts have started to occur. Our faces break out in the nose, chin, cheeks, lips and jaw lines and are something we have to deal with once again.
Why now, when we have so many more things to deal with, is this? While wearing our masks, we provide bacteria with a perfect moist breeding ground to grow, expediating clogged pores and pustules. The easiest solution would be not to wear a mask. Unfortunately, this won’t happen in the foreseeable future, so what can we do?
How to prevent Maskne from getting worse
- Make sure you have a good face cleaning regimen and be diligent about keeping up with it.
- Use products that have glycolic or salicylic acid in them. These products will help kill the bacteria on the skin while keeping pore-clogging cells from building up. We have unique products from Bioderma that target sebum build-up.
- Don’t touch your face! You can easily transfer bacteria from your hands to your face. Make sure that you sanitize or wash your hands before putting on – taking off your mask.
- Drink water by drinking a minimum of 8oz of water each day; you can flush the toxins from the inside of your body so they won’t be a problem on the outside.
